The Writer and the Librarian is the first book in The Raven Society series by R.L. Geer-Robbins. Chloe was a writer hoping for the biggest of glories to come knocking on her door. She was praying for a change and a change did come in the form of a note inviting her to The Raven Society. Believing she was finally going to taste success, Chloe gleefully joins the secret society. The Raven Society swore to protect and keep hidden certain parts of history from general people, and Chloe soon realized what needed to be done. Their current target: reclaim the stolen Book of the Veiled. But getting it back wasn’t easy. If the book got into the wrong hands, it could create chaos. But it wasn’t just The Raven Society trying to get their hands on it; creatures and people far more powerful wanted it as well. Could Chloe be the key to finding the Book of the Veiled?
Heroes are made, not born and Chloe was the best example of that. Chloe was fantastic. She was imaginative, receptive, and best of all, she was a go-getter. She was the missing piece of The Raven Society, the writer they needed to complete their team. The story was incredible. The intrigue was there from the get-go, the suspense to find out who sent the invite to Chloe, why they needed her and why it was all happening to her made me read for hours. Author R.L. Geer-Robbins created the perfect universe where our fables and myths co-exist with reality. The world-building was phenomenal and each character truly fitted into their roles. I loved how cool Eidolon was, and how supportive Sydney was, and Moll and Aelle were super talented (and the perfect companions for Chloe). The ending was surprising and very unexpected. But it was perfect because now I am looking forward to the second novel in the series to find out what happens next!

The Writer and the Librarian is a work of fiction in the fantasy, adventure, and mystery subgenres, and it forms the first novel of the Raven Society series. The work is suitable for both mature young adult and adult readers and was penned by R.L. Geer-Robbins. In this thrilling tale, we are introduced to our reluctant protagonist Chloe Pairtee, a writer who aspires to have more in life but gets a whole lot more than she bargained for when the mysterious Raven Society invites her to join them. So begins the uncovering of a magical legacy dating back centuries, and the darkness in Chloe’s past will be revealed along the way.
R.L. Geer-Robbins delivers a superb foray into the fantasy world with a brilliant premise on which to start a series. I loved the immediate drop into the clandestine world of the Raven Society, and many threads of danger and intrigue weighed on the atmosphere of the story, creating tension as we followed them all into a tapestry of daemons, magic, and impending doom. Chloe makes an excellent central protagonist for the novel, beginning in the anti-hero space as we watch her develop, become more open, and eventually step up to assume the mantle that awaits her. She comes a long way indeed in this opening novel, but with so much more potential that it’s exciting to suppose where the series will go next. If you’re seeking a fantastic new fantasy series with solid plotting, likable characters, and edge-of-your-seat suspense, look no further than The Writer and the Librarian for your next adventure.

The Writer and the Librarian: The Raven Society Book 1 is a fantasy epic by R.L. Geer-Robbins. Chloe accepts an invitation to join The Raven Society, which was created centuries before to protect, maintain, and preserve mystical history considered extremely dangerous to the public. This information was held in The Book of the Veiled, written over generations. Whoever has it can rewrite history, either changing the future for the benefit of all or using it for evil purposes. Chloe becomes the writer who preserves the information, while Eidolan becomes the librarian who safeguards the books. There is just one problem. The books are missing and the supernatural beings are restless. All members of the Raven Society use their special skills to search for the book. Chloe’s talents are still new to her and the Otherworld can be a deadly place.
How far would you be willing to travel into darkness to discover the truth? The Writer and the Librarian is a thrilling story that quickly unfolds to reveal layers of intrigue, suspense, adventure, magic, and wizardry. It contains doses of humor, sarcasm, mild romance, and supernatural creatures. It’s not hard to become fully absorbed in the story, as it’s beautifully narrated by Chloe, who is quick-witted and has a personality that speaks volumes. Her character, like the others, is fully developed and unique. I loved everything about this novel by R.L. Geer-Robbins. You will also enjoy reading the book.
